What is the Strategic Transportation Plan (STP)?
Denver Public Works, with major support from Denver Community Planning and Development, has begun to develop the Denver Strategic Transportation Plan (STP). The STP will be a primary implementation tool of Blueprint Denver, which identified the vision for the City, and the Denver Comprehensive Plan.
The objective of the STP is to determine the types of transportation investments Denver needs to make to accomplish the vision of Blueprint Denver. The STP process will
- Provide education concerning options for transportation alternatives;
- Reach consensus on transportation strategies; and
- Build support among community stakeholders.
To achieve these goals, it is essential to develop the plan through a collaborative planning process that involves city agencies, regional authorities and the public in key decisions throughout the plan development. The STP represents a new approach to transportation planning. Instead of just forecasting future auto travel on Denver streets, we have developed a mathematical model that forecasts person-trips so that we can evaluate the magnitude of impacts caused by all types of travel. This person-trip data will give us the ability to plan for bikes, pedestrians, and transit as well as for street improvements.
The STP is the first step in identifying the needs for every major travel corridor in the City. The STP will create concepts for how to meet transportation needs, including a prioritization of the corridor improvements. |
